Trundle Bed Mattresses

Size Counts
As is customary with any mattress, the first consideration is size. Because of the link-spring construction, the need for box springs is alleviated. With regular bunk beds and lofts, the mattress that fits on the upper frames is normally a standard twin size. With these, because there are no height limitations, mattress thickness is not a factor. When it comes to the trundle bed itself, however, this is not always the case. Although most trundles are designed to hold a standard twin-size mattress, because they fit under the top frame, thickness is a factor. Care must be taken to ensure that the trundle with mattress will be able to slide in and out smoothly. Extra-thick mattresses or mattresses fitted with extra-thick pads will be problematic. When purchasing a pop-up-style trundle bed, because the trundle pops up to the same height as the upper mattress, it will be important to make sure that thickness is uniform to prevent any unevenness in mattresses.

Daybed mattresses are commonly manufactured slightly thinner than standard twins to allow for a more pleasing appearance and more comfortable seating.

Construction
Another consideration will be the type of mattress material. The mattress industry is expanding rapidly, and technological advances play an important role in mattress design. High-tech memory foam mattresses, as well as foam and feather mattress pads and toppers, have become very popular. Even conventional mattress construction and designs have improved significantly.

Price
Finally as with most things, price is also a factor. Mattresses can vary greatly in price, and it's wise to take the time to shop and compare. Although it's generally true that better mattresses will cost more, prices will still vary greatly among mattresses of the same quality.
