At some point, we all have the experience that results in one of friendship's epic stories: spending a night on a cramped living room sofa. And whether it's the host or the guest on the couch, either can agree that most sofas can't really compare to a night on a proper mattress (because, let's face it, the inflatable mattress is even more unreliable than the couch). Enter the trundle bed, an expandable, affordable option for guest bedrooms or other small spaces that will keep your guests off the sofa every time they come to stay - and they can feel free to bring a friend or significant other along, too. Trundle beds are naturally a pair; one slightly smaller bed slides underneath an upper bed (usually a twin-size), perfect for a single guest. Some trundles have a lower bed that moves on rollers or casters and can be pulled out to act as a separate bed from the upper mattress - an ideal sleeping situation for two friends. Other trundle bed styles feature a trundle that can be snapped and secured into a higher position to create a "single" larger bed for visiting couples. |
It's important to note that all linens and blankets should be removed from the lower trundle bed when it's not in use. The movement of the lower bed out from underneath the upper bed can tear sheets, or the sheets can get tangled (and mangled) in the trundle's casters. By undressing the bed after use, you can ensure your guests get a good night of sleep between pretty, pristine sheets and blankets.
